Educating Girls from Kenya’s Poorest Urban Households
Despite Free Primary Education, over 60 percent of pupils in informal settlements still attend non-public fee-charging schools, which lack trained teachers and adequate facilities.
Studies conducted in 2009/2010 by APHRC show that the transition rate for pupils residing in the urban slums of Nairobi was 58 percent, compared to nearly 88 percent for pupils in the non-slum areas with girls’ transition rate being lower than that of boys at 60.8 percent. […]
