Strengthening Early Childhood Development (ECD) Data Systems Through a Centralized Data Visualization Platform in Kenya

Early Childhood Development (ECD) is a critical foundation for lifelong health, learning, and productivity. However, in Kenya, as in many low- and middle-income countries, ECD outcomes remain uneven due to fragmented services and limited integration of data across sectors such as health, education, and child protection.

To support evidence-informed decision-making, a multi-county assessment was conducted to explore the current landscape of ECD data systems and opportunities for developing a centralized ECD data visualization platform. The assessment focused on three counties: Homa Bay, Isiolo, and Nairobi, engaging stakeholders responsible for collecting, managing, and using ECD-related data.

A total of 183 respondents participated in the assessment as represented below:

  • Homa Bay: 61 respondents
  • Isiolo: 58 respondents
  • Nairobi: 64 respondents

The findings highlight both the richness of ECD data currently collected across sectors and the systemic challenges that limit its effective use for planning, coordination, and policy action.
