ABOUT George Evans Owino

George Evans Owino is an Associate Research Scientist within the Early Childhood Development (ECD) Unit under the Human Development (HD) Theme. His expertise is in the epistemological and methodological foundations of social scientific research. Specifically, he applies qualitative research methodologies to understanding social processes and exploring meanings that social actors attach to their actions, behaviors, and experiences.

He is a medical sociologist with a PhD in public health from Bielefeld University, Germany, having specialized in the use of triangulated phenomenological approaches to generate knowledge on the lived experiences of people living with HIV. He also holds a master’s degree in Sociology from Kenyatta University. Before joining the Center, he was the Program Manager, Knowledge Management at the African Early Childhood Network (AfECN) where he led knowledge generation and provided oversight for program design, implementation and reporting. He also oversaw research on the status of childcare in Africa with an emphasis on children with special needs and children of teenage mothers. In addition, he managed the AfECN Research Mentorship Program.

George is passionate about strengthening systems of ECD governance and on enablers and constraints for establishing and functioning multi-sectoral ECD programs in Africa. He is looking forward to an environment where he can contribute to designing scalable and innovative approaches to deliver affordable childcare services targeting children at the margins. He is excited about employing the power of triangulated mixed methods to carry forward his interest in unpacking interventions’ underlying meanings for implementers and beneficiaries.

As one of the cornerstones of making the world a better place, George mentors young people to help them establish strong foundations for their future lives. George enjoys gardening, basking in nature’s beauty, and listening to inspiring music.
