ABOUT Martin Kavao Mutua

Martin’s work focuses on maternal and child health, emphasizing vaccination research, health systems strengthening, and data-driven solutions for improving healthcare delivery in Africa. He has extensive experience analyzing routine health facility data and household surveys such as DHS and MICS and advanced statistical skills. He leads several multi-country projects, including those under the Countdown 2030 initiative.

He holds a PhD in Epidemiology from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Kenya. He also has two master’s degrees in Biostatistics and Applied Statistics from Hasselt University, Belgium. Before joining APHRC, he worked as a Data Manager at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) and a Researcher at the Institute for International Research, Inc. (IIR), a subsidiary of Informa Plc in the UK.

Martin is passionate about using data to address health inequities, particularly in under-served populations across Africa, and advancing the field of public health through research.

He enjoys mentoring upcoming researchers and actively contributes to global health dialogues on vaccines and health system improvements.
