ABOUT Phyllis Mungai

Phyllis Mungai is the Senior Legal and Compliance Officer at APHRC, where she oversees legal, risk, and compliance functions. With over a decade of experience in contract negotiations, donor compliance, data protection, and intellectual property, she ensures that the organization operates responsibly, ethically, and in line with both local and global standards.

She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa and a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. She is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Management and Organizational Development at United States International University–Africa, with a focus on integrating legal expertise with strategic management and organizational effectiveness. Before joining APHRC, Phyllis worked as a senior associate in the Corporate and Commercial Department at Wambasi and Company Advocates. There, her work encompassed property acquisition, disposal, and development, as well as advising clients on a wide range of legal issues, including business establishment in Kenya, property laws, company restructuring, and general regulatory compliance, as well as reviewing and drafting commercial contracts.
