ABOUT Moreen Nkonge

Moreen works across the Research and Related Capacity Strengthening (RRCS) and Policy Engagement and Communications (PEC) functions at APHRC. Her expertise spans development communication and policy advocacy in the region. She currently supports policy engagement efforts with governments for the Catalyze Impact Initiative, testing prototypes to accelerate the adoption of research evidence into policymaking in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Nigeria. Her role also extends to design thinking for the novel Africa Evidence Alliance, an evidence-to-action collaborative framework aimed at scaling up life-saving health innovations.

In her immediate former role, Moreen worked in the Advocacy Unit in PEC on sanitation policy advocacy in Kenya, Malawi, and Mozambique. She has also handled internal and external communications for the Center, including brand management, content generation, and digital media. Previously, she worked in program communications with Mercy Corps and ActionAid International-Kenya.

Moreen holds a bachelor’s degree in communication and Media from Maseno University and a master’s degree in development communication from USIU-Africa. Her thesis explored how TikTok has shaped contraception knowledge and use among young women in Kenya in recognition of the structural and systemic barriers to accessing sexual and reproductive health information and services.
