Cavens Kithinji
Cavens coordinates CARTA program activities, ensuring the effective translation of strategies into action. His role spans partner liaison, team coordination, training, curriculum review, institutionalization of CARTA interventions, and support to trainers.
He holds a Ph.D. in Project Planning and Management, specializing in Monitoring and Evaluation, as well as a Master’s degree in the same field from the University of Nairobi. He also earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Moi University. Cavens brings extensive experience in academia and administration. He began his career as a teacher, trainer, and administrator in Kenyan high schools before joining Pan African Christian University (PAC University) as a lecturer, where he headed the Department of Community Development. He later served as Registrar, leading the Administration and Planning Division for three and a half years. Prior to joining APHRC, Cavens contributed to several evaluations for nongovernmental organizations across Kenya, Uganda, Somalia, Somaliland, and Djibouti, and has published in peer-reviewed journals.
Beyond his professional commitments, Cavens serves as Vice Chairperson of the Board of Management at Ripples International, an organization championing children’s and women’s rights, providing shelter to abandoned children and survivors of sexual abuse. He is also a member of the Academic Committee of the University Council at PAC University. Motivated by service to humanity and a passion for strengthening research capacity, Cavens is committed to fostering local solutions to community challenges through evidence-based approaches. He values collaboration and enjoys engaging with people in pursuit of shared goals.
