ABOUT
Alypio Nyandwi
Alypio Nyandwi is a senior public health advisor and program coordinator with close to 20 years of experience in health systems strengthening, public policy, and research management across Africa. He currently leads the Afrique Research Support Hub (ARSH) at the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC). The program, funded by Wellcome, builds the capacity of early and mid-career African researchers in grant writing, mentorship, and research management.
Under his leadership, ARSH is establishing regional research support hubs in East, West & Central, and Southern Africa to enhance researchers’ ability to secure international funding, especially for discovery research. Previously, Alypio coordinated the SIDA–APHRC Fund Management Project under the Joint Programming Initiative on Antimicrobial Resistance (JPIAMR) Partnership, and the Countdown 2030 (CD2030) Fellowship Program.
The CD2030 Fellowship is a multilateral collaboration to strengthen analytical capacities for monitoring and tracking the progress of life-saving interventions for Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health and Nutrition (RMNCAH+N) in Countdown 2030 collaborating countries in Africa. The Fund Management Project provided financial and technical oversight to 22 partner institutions implementing 16 AMR research projects in more than 13 African countries, improving project implementation, research management, and collaboration among AMR researchers and policy actors. The CD2030 Fellowship Program focused on developing the analytical and leadership capacities of African researchers working on women’s, children’s, and adolescents’ health, connecting them to continental and global accountability
platforms.
Earlier in his career, Alypio served for 16 years in Rwanda’s Ministry of Health. He led strategic
planning, monitoring, and evaluation processes that shaped key national health policies and frameworks.
