TERMS OF REFERENCE – PROVISION OF VIDEOGRAPHY AND PHOTOGRAPHY SERVICES

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is a leading Africa-based, African-led, international research institution headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, and engaged in multidisciplinary, evidence-based policy research. Our researchers address important issues and challenges facing Africa in areas such as education, health, population, aging, urbanization and well-being. We engage with policy makers in the region to disseminate our research findings to influence policy decisions and improve the quality of life in Africa.

Project Synopsis

As part of the Zero Hunger Initiative, APHRC has embarked on two projects aimed at improving food security in Nairobi. The initiative will kick start activities through tree planting in schools and setting up of urban farms in Viwandani and Korogocho.

Scope of Work

Professional videography and photography services to document inception and progress over a three-month period, including interviews with identified persons.

Photography:

  • Provide APHRC with a soft catalogue of edited, high-resolution, high-quality photographs of the meetings and field visits
  • High-resolution photos shared with the project team
  • Raw and edited compressed photos shared on google drive (or similar) delivered within four days after each site visit.

Videography:

  • Development of a storyboard and interview guide tailored for various stakeholders (with feedback on both from project team) approved by project team prior to shooting dates
  • Provide graphics where necessary
  • Master copy of all interviews and footage on a hard drive (including rough cuts. Written consent must be obtained prior)
  • Final approved videos (in line with the schedule of deliverables) with subtitles in English; allow for rounds of review with the project

The team will be required to travel to different project sites within Nairobi’s Viwandani and Korogocho areas to periodically document progress made.

Qualification or Specialized Knowledge and/or Experience

  • Prior experience producing films for humanitarian/ development purposes.
  • Five or more years’ professional experience in photography and video
  • Legal permission to work in Kenya
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must have own licence/permits to film in the city.
