The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is an African-led and Africa based international research institute committed to conducting high quality and policy relevant multidisciplinary research. Our research addresses important development issues and challenges facing sub-Saharan Africa in areas such as education, population, health, aging, urbanization and wellbeing. Our goal is to generate evidence for meaningful action, engage with policy makers in the region to disseminate our research findings, influence policy decisions, and improve the quality of life in Africa.

The APHRC invites applications for Laboratory technologists to carry out laboratory procedures for the DREAMS Impact Evaluation II Study in Korogocho and Viwandani.

Roles and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be involved in the following activities:

1. Obtaining blood samples from participants for HIV test

2. Conducting HIV testing to project participant

3. Dispatching results to HIV Testing Services (HTS) counsellor for referral/linkage to care and treatment services to participant

4. Coordinate issue of blood samples to National Public Health Laboratories for further testing according to standard operating procedures

5. Complete the relevant project HIV Testing Services (HTS) tracking forms

6. Keep updated records of work

7. Maintain and safeguard all assigned project documents and equipment

8. Maintain supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level and placing orders for suppllies

9. Report in a timely manner project related issues to the supervisor for quick and effective troubleshooting

10. Undertake other related activities assigned by the supervisor and project manager.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Diploma  in    Laboratory  Science  from  an  institution  recognized  by  Kenya  Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB)

2. Registration certificate and valid practicing license issued by KMLTTB

3. Proficiency in computer applications g. Ms Word, Excel etc.

4. Excellent report writing skills

5. Have strong interpersonal and communications skills-fluent in English and Swahili (oral and written).

6. Experience working in informal settlements

7. Must be available full time for training and during the entire study period.
