QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE FIELD INTERVIEWERS FOR A RESEARCH PROJECT IN HOMA BAY COUNTY (19 POSITIONS)

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) invites applications for field interviewers for the endline of the External Evaluation of the “In Their Hands” (ITH) program in Kenya. ITH is a Sexual and Reproductive Health intervention program that aims to increase adolescents’ use of high-quality sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services through targeted interventions.

Using a mixed-methods approach, the endline evaluation study to be conducted in Homa Bay County in March/April 2020 will systematically assess the delivery, effectiveness, and impact of the program and report the findings and lessons learned throughout the process.

Minimum qualifications required for Quantitative Field Interviewers (16 positions)
1. Completed Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education with a minimum grade of C Plain
2. Be proficient in basic computer applications or experience in electronic data capture.
3. Be fluent in English and Kiswahili.
4. Be prepared to work full time on the project for the duration of the study (between March and April 2020)
5. Possess strong interpersonal, communication (written and oral) and facilitation skills.
6. Have proven experience in quantitative research methods
7. Proven past experience working with research projects on adolescents sexual and reproductive health and rights
8. Be a resident of or originating from Homa Bay County where the study is being implemented.
9. Experience in working with adolescents, especially on sexual and reproductive health rights will be an added advantage.

Main Responsibilities – Quantitative Field Interviewers
1. Identify study participants as defined in the study
2. Consent study participants
3. Conduct face-to-face interviews with participants sampled for the study
4. Review all completed interviews for the day to ensure completeness and internal consistency

5. Compile and submit daily work progress report to the immediate supervisor
6. Review and correct any inconsistent data detected from the database
7. Ensure safety of survey tools and equipment
8. Ensure that all study participants in the sample assigned to are properly
accounted for by end of the data collection period

Minimum qualifications required for Qualitative Field Interviewers (3 positions)
1. Must have a Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or public health
2. Be fluent in English, Swahili and any other local language spoken in the project counties
3. Be prepared to work full time on the project for the duration of the study (between March and April 2020)
4. Possess strong interpersonal, communication (written and oral) and facilitation skills.
5. Have proven experience in qualitative research methods (conducting FGDs, IDIs and/or KIIs)
6. Be a current resident of or originating from Homa Bay County where the study is being implemented
7. Experience in working with adolescents, especially on sexual and reproductive health and rights will be an added advantage

Main Responsibilities – Qualitative Field Interviewers
1. Take notes and compile comprehensive qualitative interview debriefing reports/notes
2. Moderate/facilitate qualitative interviews with community members in the study area
3. Prepare data collection progress report and updates
4. Other tasks assigned by the team leader and principal investigator
