ABOUT Shukri F Mohamed

Dr. Shukri Mohamed, is a Research Scientist at the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) in Nairobi, Kenya. With a strong background in global health and nutrition policy, she has led initiatives focused on strengthening food environment policies to reduce diet-related non-communicable diseases in Africa. Her work integrates rigorous research aiming to influence both national and regional strategies. Dr. Mohamed has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals on topics such as non-communicable disease epidemiology, chronic disease prevention, and food policy analysis, and her research continues to shape public health interventions and regulatory frameworks across Eastern Africa.

She earned her PhD in Public Health and Epidemiology from the University of Warwick, an MPH in International Health with a concentration in Child Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and a PharmD from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. Prior to joining APHRC, she interned at KEMSA and worked as a pharmacist in the US. Additionally, she was a Gates Scholar at the University of Maryland from 2000 to 2004.

Dr. Mohamed is passionate about generating research that promotes equitable healthcare for all and plays a critical role in informing policy and practice to improve public health outcomes in Africa.

Beyond my core expertise in public health research and food environment policy, I bring added value through my strong convening power, ability to bridge research and policy, and a track record of coordinating multi-country initiatives.
