Climate change poses an escalating threat to the health and well-being of millions across the East African drylands. With increasing heat, prolonged droughts, and more frequent floods, communities face both direct and indirect disruptions to critical social and environmental determinants of health. These include diminished access to nutritious food, rising undernutrition, and mounting mental health challenges.

Recent evidence highlights a strong correlation between climate variability and nutritional outcomes. Drought, for instance, increases the risk of child wasting and underweight by nearly 50%. In a region where one in three children under five already suffers from stunting, the stakes are high. Despite projections that climate-driven malnutrition will be the leading cause of related illness and death by 2030 and 2050, there remains a critical gap in data and understanding of the full impact. This project seeks to bridge that gap and drive targeted, evidence-based interventions.
