Young people, women, and sexual and gender minority groups in Africa face persistent challenges that limit their access to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) services and to critical social, education, and economic services.
The Challenging the Politics of Social Exclusion (CPSE) program is a research-to-policy program that aims to accelerate the full domestication and implementation of national, regional, and continental commitments made by African countries to advance SRHR. The program focuses on three contentious SRHR issues: access to safe and legal abortion and post-abortion care, adolescents’ SRHR, and the social inclusion of sexual and gender minority groups.
The CPSE program positions the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) as a neutral knowledge partner to a constellation of actors committed to translating continental, regional, and national commitments on SRHR into meaningful policy and programmatic action.
The first phase of the program ran from 2018 to 2024. The second phase of the program (CPSE 2.0) runs from December 2024 to December 2027.
