David Ngilangwa
Dr. David Ngilangwa is a trained public health researcher and bioethicist. At APHRC, he leads the Research Governance unit where he is responsible for ensuring that APHRC research activities and products adhere to the ethical standards, legal and scientific integrity, while protecting the welfare of both research participants and researchers.
This includes ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and guidelines, controlling risks, data protection, and guiding researchers. Before this role, he provided overall in-country leadership in research for the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and AMREF Health Africa in Tanzania. He led the establishment and operations of the AMREF Health Africa Institutional Review Board (IRB). He holds a PhD in Public Health from the University of the Western Cape, South Africa, and a European MSc. in International Health conferred jointly by Charite University, Germany; University of Copenhagen, Denmark; University College London, UK, and University of Bergen, Norway. He also has a Postgraduate Diploma in International Research Ethics from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, and a Bachelor of Arts (Sociology) from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Ngilangwa believes that even though the advancement of knowledge and innovating health care remain essential, the safety, well-being, rights, and dignity of research participants are paramount.
