ABOUT Emmy Kageha Igonya

Dr. Emmy Kageha Igonya is a Medical Anthropologist and an Associate Research Scientist with the Population Dynamics Sexual and Reproductive Health Unit at APHRC. She is currently working on the implementation of the Challenging the Politics of Social Exclusion project where she leads the sexual and gender minorities segment.

She holds a Ph.D. degree in Medical Anthropology from the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research (AISSR), University of Amsterdam.  She is a qualitative research expert with extensive experience in ethnography, including participatory methods. Her research interests include sexuality, reproductive health and rights, HIV and related support groups, sexual and gender minorities, key populations (drug use, sex work, and men who have sex with men), infant feeding, and social protection.

Previously, she worked at the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research (AISSR), University of Amsterdam, and was a qualitative monitoring expert consultant with Pricewaterscoopers Ltd. She serves on the advisory board of the Youth RISE, harm reduction.
