ABOUT Antonina Namaemba Mutoro

Antonina is a postdoctoral research scientist in the Maternal and Child Wellbeing Unit. She is a registered nutritionist and an honorary research fellow at the University of Glasgow. She holds a Ph.D. in Human Nutrition and an MSc in Human Nutrition (clinical nutrition) from the University of Glasgow. 

She is interested in infant and young child nutrition, growth and development, and childhood obesity. She believes that every child has the right to a happy and healthy childhood. Most of her research has been focused on risk factors for undernutrition in children and adolescents in low-income areas in Nairobi, Kenya, but she has also done work on the nutrition quality of foods marketed to children in the United Kingdom. She has worked closely with government, non-governmental and community-based organizations in Kenya. Through her doctoral and postdoctoral work, she has developed project management, networking skills, and research skills such as research tool development, data collection, analysis, and synthesis of qualitative and quantitative studies.

Antonina is currently managing the Healthy Food Africa project, which aims to improve food security by promoting urban agriculture in urban informal settlements in Nairobi. The project also aims to promote food safety among food vendors in informal settlements.
