TERMS OF REFERENCE – VIDEOGRAPHY AND PHOTOGRAPHY SERVICE FOR STAFF ONBOARDING

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is an African-led and Africa-based international research institute committed to conducting high quality and policy-relevant multidisciplinary research. Our researchers address critical development issues and challenges facing sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) in areas such as education, population, health, aging, urbanization, and wellbeing. Our goal is to generate evidence for meaningful action, engage with policymakers in the region to disseminate our research findings, influence policy decisions, and improve the quality of life in Africa

To achieve its mandate, APHRC recruits talent globally and it is for this reason that we wish to produce audio-visual content that will highlight key messages about APHRC and pertinent information to assist in the onboarding of selected employees and potential hires.  The consultant will work under the guidance of Human Resources and Visibility Units on key messages and content to be incorporated in the video and photos.  The right candidate should be able to make use of innovative and illustrative storytelling techniques to engage the intended audience

Tasks

Videography

  • Production of video (script writing, videography, editing, audio balancing, sub-titling, format exporting, archiving raw and edited work etc.) according to APHRC standards. All videos produced must be of the highest quality to adequately represent the organization
  • The consultant shall use their own HD quality video camera and professional editing software
  • Edit the footage in line with the script agreed and approved by APHRC focal persons (Human resource and Visibility Unit) and produce a professional quality package / report / PSA of broadcast quality
  • Record and edit narration / voice over where needed in according with guidance from relevant APHRC focal person
  • Embed sub-titles in the video as per need
  • Clearly identify location, name and role of interviewees, quotes and any relevant details (to include Executive Director to give organizational overview and Divisional Heads for more specific details and recording of key onboarding information)
  • Include appropriate APHRC branding and crediting of APHRC ownership for the produced videos

Photography

  • At least 30 high quality and high resolution, edited and captioned pictures delivered on (To include APHRC Campus, and field activities)
  • Creation of graphics where necessary
  • Submission of a final approved audio-visual product on google drive

Deliverables

Production of 3-4 videos ranging from 3mins to 5mins. The production will include but not be limited to;

  • Creation of the general concept of the videos
  •  Development of the detailed scenarios of the videos
  • Coordination and approval of the scenarios with APHRC
  •  Video production
  • Post-production (assembly, sound, processing, etc.)
  • Delivery of the final HD videos     

Final HD still pictures – at least 30

Timeline for delivery

One month from commencement date. This will also include time needed to consult and deliver on feedback provided

Qualifications and experience

  • Exceptional photography and videography skills
  • At least five years of experience in videography/video editing
  • Demonstrated experience of conception, production and editing of mini video documentaries and PSAs
  • Experience covering social, and development subjects will be an asset
