TERMS OF REFERENCE – GRAPHIC DESIGNER Posted on 02/11/2021 by lillian osano CAREERS GET INVOLVED // CAREERS TERMS OF REFERENCE – GRAPHIC DESIGNER Deadline: November 13, 2021 Open Job Background The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is an African-led and Africa-based international research institute committed to conducting high quality and policy-relevant multidisciplinary research. Our researchers address critical development issues and challenges facing sub- Saharan Africa (SSA) in areas such as education, population, health, aging, urbanization, and wellbeing. Our goal is to generate evidence for meaningful action, engage with policymakers in the region to disseminate our research findings, influence policy decisions, and improve the quality of life in Africa. The APHRC is implementing a 4-year research-to-policy program ‘Challenging the Politics of Social Exclusion‘ (CPSE). The CPSE program aims to act as a critical and neutral knowledge partner to the constellation of actors advocating for the full domestication and implementation of continental commitments on the sexual and reproductive health, and the rights of Africa’s young people and women. As a knowledge partner, CPSE will work to support these actors in developing and deploying effective, evidence-based advocacy specifically on three focal SRHR issues: The sexual and reproductive health and the rights of adolescents; Access to safe abortion and post-abortion care; The discrimination of marginalized sexual and gender minority groups. Scope of Work CPSE is looking for a talented individual with graphic design expertise to develop project briefs and create visual communications materials (brochures, flyers, fact sheets, and infographics) that represent the CPSE project, both in print media and online formats. On a piece of work basis, the designer will work with the CPSE project team to create well-designed products that meet APHRC and project standards as required. Under the guidance and leadership of the Project Lead and the Partnerships Manager, the consultant will perform the following: Following APHRC’s policies, design, and layout all knowledge products such as project banners, reports, flyers, fact sheets, briefs, infographics; newspaper ads, web ads, and brochures (APHRC will provide content). Design of reports and other communication materials for print and electronic distribution. Improve and edit artwork, photos, charts, and other graphic elements. Create animations for illustrative purposes such as animations, presentations, webinars and more advanced solutions (design of CD/DVD packaging, graphic digitalization). Custom photo editing (restoration, noise reduction, tonal adjustment). Deliver creative graphic and technical solutions for the use of new media (virtual 3D words/boxes, postcards). Possibility of additional piecework contracts as required, depending on the project’s needs. Minimum Qualifications At least a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Graphic Design, or related field. Minimum of three years of relevant work experience in Graphic Design. Possession of creative flair, versatility, conceptual/visual ability, and originality. Demonstrable graphic design skills with a strong portfolio. Up to date with and highly skilled in industry software and excellent (In Design, Illustrator, Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Bridge, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and other graphic design software. etc.). Should be skilled in photography and videography. Professionalism regarding time, cost, and deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English with knowledge of printing processes (offset and digital) and color management. Initiative and sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work in harmony with persons of different national and cultural backgrounds. Good command of French is an added advantage.
