The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is an African-led and Africa based international research institute engaged in multidisciplinary, evidence-based policy research. Our researchers address important issues and challenges facing Africa in areas such as education, health, population, aging, urbanization and wellbeing. We engage with policymakers in the region to disseminate our research findings and influence policy decisions to improve the quality of life in Africa.

The APHRC invites applications for a Temporary Research Officer to join the Inua Jamii Research Project. This study aims to investigate the impact of women self-help groups on the quality of life of beneficiaries enrolled in the government’s Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Program for Orphans and Vulnerable Children.

We seek to recruit a highly qualified and experienced Research Officer to coordinate field activities and support the econometric evaluation of the impact of the Inua Jamii program in the informal settlements in Nairobi, Kenya.

Duties and responsibilities

1. Supervise and coordinate fieldwork in the execution of the research project to ensure timely implementation of field operations.
2. Coordinate mobilization and sensitization of study participants in relation to the research project.
3. Monitor field work and ensure field staff adhere to data quality guidelines.
4. Lead the development of fieldwork progress reports as per the laid down schedule.
5. Conduct spot checks and edit questionnaires.
6. Carrying out Economic analysis.
7. Coordinate all field logistical activities of the project.
8. Other tasks assigned by the supervisor, project manager and principal investigator.

Minimum qualifications

1. Degree in Economics, Population Health, Social Sciences, or other related fields.
2. Masters in Health Economics.
3. Familiarity with econometric evaluation.
4. At least 2 years post-qualification experience in research including coordinating fieldwork or research activities at the community level.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
6. Experience in impact evaluation will be an added advantage.

Priority will be given to candidates who:

• Are ready and willing to work full-time on the project for the duration of data collection
• Are flexible and available to work odd hours (when necessary), under minimum supervision.
