APHRC seeks to drive change by developing strong African research leadership and promoting evidence-informed decision-making (EIDM) across sub-Saharan Africa. In Garissa and Turkana counties, APHRC is exploring how teachers in both refugee and host community schools experience their work and overall well-being. As the research and learning partner in the TeachWell Project consortium, APHRC is conducting the Teacher Well-being study to assess the current state of teacher well-being in refugee and host settings in Kenya. The findings aim to guide advocacy efforts and inform policies and programs at both the county and national levels, ultimately enhancing support for teachers working in these challenging contexts. To support this activity, APHRC invites applications from qualified individuals to serve as Quantitative and Qualitative Field Interviewers for the study. Data collection is scheduled to take place in September 2025. Applicants residing in Garissa and Turkana are encouraged to apply. Applicants from host and refugee-hosting communities who understand the local languages are highly encouraged to apply. Responsibilities and duties Commit to attend all days of training and data collection period. Obtain and document informed consent from study participants before the interviews. Conduct and record all interviews held with respondents using Survey CTO. Participate in daily debrief meetings. Be a custodian of the APHRC data collection equipment during field work. Observe safeguarding procedures throughout the data engagement. Perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor. Minimum requirements KCSE certificate with a minimum of Grade C Proven experience in quantitative data collection and electronic data capture. Strong communication, interpersonal and report writing skills. Available to work full-time on the project for the duration of the study. Resident in one of the counties of Garissa and Turkana. Fluent in both oral and written English and Swahili. Familiarity with local languages spoken in the target counties is an added advantage. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Microsoft Word and Excel. Demonstrated ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively and collaborate with a large research team. Availability should be immediate.
