The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is an African-led and Africa based international research institute committed to conducting high quality and policy relevant multidisciplinary research. Our research addresses important development issues and challenges facing sub-Saharan Africa in areas such as education, population, health, aging, urbanization and wellbeing. Our goal is to generate evidence for meaningful action, engage with policy makers in the region to disseminate our research findings, influence policy decisions, and improve the quality of life in Africa.

The APHRC invites applications for Qualitative and Quantitative Field Interviewers to carry out data
collection activities for the DREAMS Impact Evaluation II Study in Korogocho and Viwandani set to begin in April 2022.

Qualitative Field Interviewers

Duties and responsibilities:
The successful candidates will be involved in the following activities:
 Recruiting participants who meet the eligibility criteria.
 Moderation / facilitation of qualitative interviews (Focus Group Discussions and Indepth Interviews) with selected participants.
 Note taking and compilation of comprehensive qualitative interview debriefing notes.
 Recording interviews and focus group discussions using digital audio recording devices provided by the research team.
 Keeping updated records of assigned work.
 Safeguarding all assigned project equipment.
 Attending and participating in all project related meetings.
 Timely reporting of project related issues to the supervisor for quick and effective troubleshooting.
 Undertaking other related activities, assigned by the supervisor and project manager.

Minimum qualifications required:
1. A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Sciences or other related field from a recognized university.
2. Be fluent in English and Swahili (oral and written), and have the ability to facilitate interviews and group discussions in these languages.
3. Have proven experience and skills in qualitative research work including interviewing, group facilitation, moderation, note taking and report writing.
4. Possess strong teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills.
5. Flexible and available to work odd hours (when necessary).
6. Experience in conducting interviews in slum areas (preferably Korogocho and Viwandani).
7. Be prepared to work full time on the project for the duration of the data collection.

 

Quantitative Field Interviewers

Duties and responsibilities:
The successful candidates will be involved in the following activities:
 Conduct interviews on all eligible respondents.
 Complete, edit and submit all assigned interviews for crosschecking and verification by the team leader/supervisor.
 Keep updated records of assigned work.
 Safeguard all assigned project equipment.
 Attend all project related meetings.
 Report in a timely manner project related issues to the team leader for quick and effective troubleshooting.
 Undertake other related activities assigned by the supervisor and project manager.

Minimum qualifications required:
1. Minimum of a KCSE Certificate of Grade C Plain.
2. Proven experience in quantitative research data collection.
3. Have strong interpersonal and communications skills-fluent in English and Swahili
(oral and written).
4. Familiarity and proficiency in using smart phones, tablets and/electronic gadgets
for quantitative data collection.
5. Experience in conducting interviews in slum areas (preferably Korogocho and
Viwandani).
6. Must be available full time for training and during the entire data collection period.
