APHRC conducts policy- relevant research on population, health, education, urbanization and related development issues in sub-Saharan Africa. APHRC’s Research and Related Capacity Strengthening (RRCS) Division seeks to recruit a Program Administration Officer to manage its cross-cutting and related functions. This is a new role arising from the implementation of the current five-year strategic plan which has, subsequently triggered tremendous growth in our programs. Duties/Responsibilities Coordinate the RRCS management and administrative matters, in liaison with the Head and Unit Leaders of the Division. Coordinate RRCS Division events and meetings including quarterly team building activities liaising with HR and the Units. Coordinate the various RRCS corporate and crosscutting functions including: Staff meetings and follow-up on related action points. Monitoring and Evaluation of the performance of the Division liaising with corporate M&E, RRCS project M&E officers. Knowledge management and communication, making sure all products are accessible to all division members and developing awareness and dissemination activities for all members to be fully aware of the breath of knowledge existing in the division and APHRC. RRCS Division corporate reporting including weekly and monthly updates, quarterly Senior Management Reports, and other reports that may be required by APHRC. Risk Management, audit and compliance Prepare RRCS Division reports and presentations, in collaboration with the RRCS Head and Unit leaders. Coordinate internal (within RRCS) and external (outside RRCS) partnerships and synergic aspects of the Division, including during proposal development. The position may require international travel, including short stays in APHRC’s West Africa Regional Office. Qualifications, Skills and Experience A Master’s degree in Education, Health and Social Sciences, Business and Development Studies, or related fields. At least three years post-masters experience in an academic or research setting. Experience and strong interest in research, research capacity strengthening and instructional/curriculum design. Demonstrated prior experience in project coordination. Hands-on experience organizing events, virtual and physical. Experience in implementation of capacity strengthening activities in academic settings. Excellent writing, organizational administration, and interpersonal skills. Computer literacy in Microsoft packages (e.g. MS Word, MS PowerPoint, & MS Excel). Desired Familiarity with research capacity strengthening in health and/or social science related fields. Familiarity with M&E and risk management frameworks. Analytic thinking and ability to work in a culturally diverse team. Ability to speak and write French.
