The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is an international African-led and African-based international research institution headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. APHRC is committed to generating and promoting evidence-based knowledge, and developing research capacity in Africa.

APHRC is partnering with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) to implement the Catalyze Impact via Africa-led Implementation Research initiative (Catalyze Initiative), that seeks to link research outputs to policy and decision making for impact across the continent with specific activities in three countries: Ethiopia, Kenya and Nigeria. This Initiative aims at driving meaningful change and positive outcomes that will address key development challenges through an enhanced R&D ecosystem on the continent.

APHRC is seeking to recruit a Multimedia Officer to join the Catalyze Initiative project.

Duties/Responsibilities:

The Multimedia Officer will oversee the visual elements of the webpage and project materials, including knowledge management products, analyses, surveys, and exhibitions. Their main responsibilities will involve conveying information through visualizations and producing graphics such as illustrations, logos, product layouts, and photos. Additionally, they will be responsible for generating, modifying, and overseeing multimedia content across different platforms, as well as creating videos and utilizing digital channels.

  • Produce multimedia content in various formats, including, but not limited to: videos, online photo galleries, photo exhibits, webcasts, infographics, slide shows and PowerPoints.
  • Maintain photo database(s).
  • Manage video pre and post-production, scripting, camera work, webcasts, and photography.
  • Support audio and visual needs of events, website(s) and publications.
  • Create visually compelling designs for digital and print media.
  • Assist in the production of webinars, and other audiovisual content for knowledge sharing and capacity building initiatives.
  • Conduct interviews and capturing photographs/videos during project activities, and events.
  • Provide general administrative support to communications activities as needed.

Qualifications, experience and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication or related
  • At least 3 years’ relevant experience in a similar role in an international development organization.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with design software such as Publisher, PowerPoint, Adobe Premier, Photoshop Final Cut Pro X and 7, SoundTrack Pro, and DVD Studio Pro.
  • Strong communications skills and demonstrated ability to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating a range of design projects and styles.
  • Solid understanding of design principles, typography, color theory, and layout techniques.
  • Knowledge of web design principles, and experience designing for digital platforms.
  • Ability to present concepts verbally.
  • Experience in graphic design and audio-visual production is an added advantage.

The ideal candidate should be able to think creatively, and have excellent communication and  interpersonal skills.

This position is classified under Nationally Recruited Positions (NRP), Grade V in our scales.
