March 3, 2021

(March 3, 2021, Nairobi and New York)  The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) and the Guttmacher Institute are proud to announce their partnership to promote sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) in sub-Saharan Africa.

The partnership comes at a critical time when the COVID-19 pandemic has revealed and further exacerbated significant challenges and opportunities to global health, including the need to ensure the prioritization of SRHR in the recovery efforts.

“We are very excited about deepening our partnership with APHRC, especially at this time,” said Dr. Herminia Palacio, President and CEO of Guttmacher Institute, “The importance of meaningful partnerships, forged in the context of the threats of a global pandemic and reimagined in the context of global movements for equity and justice, couldn’t be clearer. Through this reinvigorated collaboration, APHRC and Guttmacher are taking a step, together, towards building the evidence and policy case for equitable reality for sexual and reproductive health and rights.”

The Memorandum of Understanding between APHRC and Guttmacher Institute includes developing and implementing projects, programs, and activities to advance SRHR in sub-Saharan Africa, with scans on mutual support and capacity strengthening in the areas of research, communications and evidence-based advocacy.

“APHRC is very excited to enter into this partnership with the Guttmacher Institute,” said Catherine  Kyobutungi, the Executive Director of APHRC. “We are excited to partner with the Institute in all three of our programmatic areas to advance sustainable capacity strengthening in SRHR, generation of evidence and promoting its use in Africa and beyond. We strongly value mutually beneficial partnerships such as this one and especially those that will also benefit the African people.”
