ABOUT Elizabeth Wambui Mwaniki

Elizabeth begun as a researcher working in the conservation of
plant genetic resources. She was involved in providing
knowledge to improve utilization of unpopular indigenous foods for food insecurity and malnutrition. Thereafter she
continued to preserve plant genetic resources while practicing
as a landscape botanist. Following her Msc. in Public Health, she is now passionately engaged in research on maternal and child health and mental health.

Elizabeth desires to see appropriate access to mental healthcare and information on the continent become a reality.

As a masters student, pursuing Public Health at the Institute of Tropical Medicine and Infectious Diseases based at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), Elizabeth joined APHRC as an intern in 2017. APHRC continues to offer her great exposure and is a great place to learn and build her as a rounded researcher. She also has a Bachelors in science from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

Elizabeth is motivated by solutions that improve the health and wellbeing of communities ie their households, mothers and children. She is keen to see research being used to inform policy and programs and provide for community engagement in the issues affecting them.

She enjoys writing to enlighten a non-scientific audience with knowledge that would better their lives and has authored a couple of blog articles.
