ABOUT Wandera Bonnie

Dr. Wandera conducts epidemiologic and implementation science research to answer questions on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) in diverse African contexts, including general and humanitarian populations. His work leverages implementation science through a health systems strengthening approach, translating research into evidence-based, accessible, and sustainable solutions that improve SRHR outcomes.

His background training is in Medicine and Surgery; he holds a PhD in Public Health from Makerere University, Uganda, and a Master’s in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from Case Western Reserve University, USA. Before joining APHRC, he worked as a Family Health Analyst and as a Director of Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning in donor and government-funded Maternal Child Health and Strategic Information Projects in Uganda, leading monitoring, evaluation, learning, and research SRHR programs and contributing to national family planning program initiatives.

He is trained in Medicine and Surgery and holds a PhD in Public Health from Makerere University, Uganda, and a Master’s in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from Case Western Reserve University, USA. Before joining APHRC, he served as Family Health Analyst and Director of Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning in donor- and government-funded Maternal Child Health and Strategic Information Projects in Uganda, where he led research, monitoring, evaluation, and learning for national family planning and SRHR programs.

Dr. Wandera is driven by a deep commitment to improving sexual and reproductive health outcomes and strengthening the health system through the use of data and evidence.

He has a breadth of epidemiological and health system experience accumulated over the years from a front-line health worker in rural Uganda to designing and managing broad clinical and implementation research programs on HIV/AIDS, family planning, and SRHR.
