ABOUT Maurine Ng'oda

As a public health professional, Maurine supports research in the Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases (ERID) unit within the Health and Well-being theme. She has been actively involved in population monitoring of COVID-19 under the Gates-funded University of Oxford KEMIS project. Maurine has also actively contributed to evaluating the Blantyre Prevention Strategy (BPS) in Malawi and the GAVI/Gates-funded HPV coverage measurement project.

Additionally, she leads the post-COVID-19 handwashing project, which evaluates handwashing behavior in Nairobi’s urban slum setting following the COVID-19 pandemic. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health from Moi University and a Master of Public Health degree in Health Promotion and International Health from Maseno University. Through the County Innovation Challenge Fund from the DFID, she has formerly supported county health systems in enhancing access to and the caliber of maternal and newborn care at Options Consultancy Services. Further, she oversaw the home-based HIV/AIDS Counseling and Testing Initiative (pHCT) in Bungoma County, working with the Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare (AMPATH), funded by the USAID.

Maurine is inspired by the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives. She finds satisfaction in knowing that her efforts have a positive outcome and is motivated by the desire to generate observable results. The Joanna Briggs Institute accredited her in Comprehensive Systematic Reviews, and the Kenya Institute of Management certified her in Project Monitoring and Evaluation.

Additionally, she is an alumnus of Cohort 37 of the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, where she specialized in civic leadership.
