MAKENA LUMBI
Lumbi is a People and Culture Business Partner responsible for overseeing key Human Capital functions, including performance management, employee learning and development, talent acquisition, staff onboarding and offboarding, and employee relations and welfare. She is also a strategic partner supporting the Data Science Program (DSP) and Chronic Diseases Management (CDM) units.
She holds a Master’s in Strategic Management from Daystar University, a Bachelor’s in counselling psychology from Africa Nazarene University, and a Higher National Diploma in Human Resources Management (KNEC) from the College of Human Resources Management (CHRM). An active member of the Institute of Human Resources Management (IHRM), Makena is currently pursuing certification as a Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP-K).
Makena’s previous role was as a Human Resource Specialist at AMREF Health Africa, working under AMREF Flying Doctors for over seven years. In this capacity, she managed the entire employee lifecycle and led initiatives on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB). She also spearheaded various projects, including job evaluation and analysis, succession planning, adapting ERP systems to meet HR needs, and supporting the CRM system for managing the International Doctors Volunteers program. Additionally, she was pivotal in implementing an automated personnel records management system through EDMS, overseeing the digitization of all HR records. Makena was also involved in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the HR Strategic Plan, as well as updating HR policies to align with the organization’s evolving culture, structure, and business strategy.
