He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the Vienna University of Economics (WU) and master’s degrees in economics from the University of Warwick (UK) and Lund University (Sweden). He received the EAPS research certificate after completing one year of intensive training at the European Doctoral School of Demography (EDSD). Before joining APHRC, he was a lecturer and researcher at the University of Vienna and a research associate at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis.

Kebede is driven by a passion for translating rigorous research into actionable policies that empower young people and enhance human capital development in Sub-Saharan Africa. He believes that evidence-based interventions can break cycles of poverty, strengthen education systems, and create meaningful employment pathways for youth. His work is fueled by the opportunity to collaborate with policymakers, practitioners, and communities to co-create solutions that are both contextually relevant and globally impactful. Whether shaping policies, influencing debates, or improving livelihoods, he is committed to ensuring that research drives real-world change.
