ABOUT Dr. Moustapha Tall

Dr. Moustapha Tall is a climate scientist focusing on natural and anthropogenic climate change and its impacts on water resources, health, and air pollution. He is keenly interested in climate risk assessment and employs statistical modeling to analyze extreme events such as heatwaves, droughts, and floods. Dr. Tall is a Contributing Author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Assessment Report 6 (AR6), which is the United Nations body for assessing the science related to climate change.

Dr. Tall earned his Ph.D. in Climate Change and Data Assimilation from the WASCAL Graduate Research Program on Climate Change and Water Resources and the University Cheikh Anta Diop (Dakar, Senegal). His doctoral research at Météo-France focused on monitoring past and future hydro-climatic conditions in West Africa by integrating land surface modeling, data assimilation, and climate change analysis.

Before joining the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC), Dr. Tall was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS-Rwanda), where he worked on extreme events analysis under changing climate conditions. He has also held visiting scientist positions at IIT-Jodhpur in India and Météo-France in Toulouse, France. Dr. Tall is committed to producing evidence to enhance the understanding of climate change effects on health and water resources and to support climate action initiatives in Africa.
