ABOUT Bernard Sabiti

Bernard has more than 10 years of experience studying Africa’s data ecosystems, Data Governance landscape, and Digital Transformation efforts, subjects he has extensively written on and spoken about at events around the world.

At APHRC, Bernard currently coordinates the Gates Data Systems Project on Strengthening Subnational Data Value Chains in Africa, as well as a Knowledge and Innovation Exchange initiative on Strengthening and Enhancing Education Data Systems in Africa (KIX-SEEDS), a partnership between APHRC and Canada’ IDRC to boost Africa’s education data ecosystems. In these roles, Bernard manages the relationships with the projects’ Local Implementing Partners (LIPs) in project countries, ensuring that the projects’ goals are timely met, projects outputs are of high quality, and keeping abreast of the latest developments in Data Governance and Data Ecosystems in Africa and beyond to inform the projects’ implementation mechanisms and the overall APHRC Data Systems and Data Governance work.

Bernard Spent 8 years building and managing development data relationships as a Senior Partnerships Manager at Development Initiatives (DI) and worked as a Researcher and Data Governance consultant for several organizations, including the Digital Impact Alliance, The Uganda Bureau of Statistics, and The African Development Bank. He holds an MSc. in Population and Reproductive Health and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from Makerere University.

Bernard is driven by a desire to see that decisions aimed at achieving Africa’s Sustainable Development are rooted in good data and evidence.

Bernard is a diehard fan of the Uganda Cranes, his country’s National Football Team
