Introduction
The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is a premier research-to-policy institution, generating evidence, strengthening research and related capacity in the African research and development ecosystem, and engaging policy to inform action on health and development. The Center is Africa-based and African-led, with its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, and a West Africa Regional Office (WARO), in Dakar, Senegal. APHRC seeks to drive change by developing strong African research leadership and promoting evidence-informed decision-making (EIDM) across sub-Saharan Africa.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is dedicated to fostering a healthy workplace for staff. To further our commitment to a healthy, resilient and productive workforce, APHRC seeks to engage a qualified and licensed service provider to deliver a comprehensive employee assistance program . All services must be provided by licensed and accredited professionals, with strict confidentiality maintained in all client interactions.
Objectives
The selected provider will be expected to deliver confidential, accessible, and professional psychosocial support to APHRC staff. Key objectives include::
- Enhancing staff mental health and emotional wellbeing
- Supporting work-life balance
- Proactively addressing workplace stress and burnout
- Improving overall productivity and organizational climate
Specific Tasks and Deliverables
Counseling Services
- Confidential short-term counseling (in-person, virtual, and telephone) on Marital and family, Grief and trauma, Substance abuse support, Financial etc
- Referral pathways for long-term therapy, psychiatric care, or specialized treatment when necessary
Workplace Support Services & Wellness Programs
- Critical incident stress debriefing, following traumatic events e.g security incidents , sudden loss of a colleague
- Organizational wellness advisory services
- Webinars/workshops on stress management and resilience, work-life balance, emotional intelligence etc
- Coaching for supervisors on how to support distressed employees
Qualifications of Service Provider
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Counselling or Psychology for both the lead consultant and other counselling staff
- A Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology (or related field) will be an added advantage
- Current registration with the Counsellors and Psychologists Board or Kenya Association of Professional Counsellors (KAPC)
- Demonstrated adherence to international confidentiality protocols and data protection laws (e.g. Kenya Data Protection Act)
APHRC’s Responsibilities
- Provide overall oversight and coordination of the EAP contract
- Promote staff awareness and access to EAP services
- Ensure timely payment in accordance with contract terms
Service Provider Responsibilities
- Provide professional psychosocial support to employees
- Produce reports detailing usage trends, emerging themes, and recommendations for organizational wellness (ensuring zero breach of individual confidentiality)
Submission of proposals
Interested individuals or firms are invited to submit an EAP service proposal via email to consultancies@aphrc.org and copy procurement@aphrc.org no later than April 06, 2026. The proposal should include a technical proposal (approach and work plan for delivering EAP services), financial proposal, company profile, CVs of key professionals, and evidence of similar assignments with client references.
