ABOUT Oumy Thiongane

Oumy Thiongane is a medical anthropologist. She completed her PhD in Social Anthropology at Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, Paris, France. Her current research tries to understand how meningitis epidemic is constructed like a public health problem in Niger with an anthropological and historical perspective. This work explores the complex interrelation between science, policy and disease. She also has been conducting ethnography in Hausa people of Keita Town (North East of Niger) to understand the social representation of meningitis. Her research interests include surveillance, epidemic preparedness, the emergency culture, the epidemiology representation and disease knowledge among scientists and populations.
