ABOUT Maureen Ngetich

Maureen is a Data Scientist within the Data Science and Evaluation (DSE) Theme. She works with the Implementation Network for Sharing Population Information from Research Entities (INSPIRE) whose aim is to build a population-based health data sharing infrastructure, and an environment where data can be used effectively for decision making.  The goal of INSPIRE is to produce Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR) data that can be used by researchers and policy makers by capacitating data producers and users with skills and tools for appropriately using the shared data and metadata.

She has a bachelor’s degree in health informatics from Kenyatta University and a master’s degree in Health Data Science from Swansea University, United Kingdom. She previously worked as a Data Scientist at the UCL (University College London) Institute of Health Informatics, London where she supported the development of an NLP (Natural Language Processing) algorithm that converts clinician free text to structured data.

Maureen is passionate about revolutionizing healthcare research. She aims to develop robust approaches to translating Artificial Intelligence and machine learning algorithms into patient and population benefit.

In 2021, Maureen was awarded the prestigious Chevening Scholarship award by the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office of the UK government. She is also an alumnus of President Obama’s Young African Leadership Initiative. She currently sits in the Health Data Research (HDR) UK black Internship program advisory board.
