Cognizant that data is the primary resource for generation of knowledge and evidence to promote scientific, policy and program discourses on development issues, APHRC adheres to the principle that data should be made available to all authorized users in a timely manner and in the most user-friendly formats. Also, the Centre subscribes to the Code of Conduct for the collection, analysis and sharing of health related research data which recognizes health data as a public good. Following the growth of its research portfolio, APHRC launched its guidelines for publications, data sharing and ethical review in 2008 that were further revised in 2013. The guidelines were designed to ensure that all research carried out at the Centre meets international scientific quality standards and is carried out in an ethical manner that protects the rights of all human participants. They are also meant to guide APHRC and non-APHRC users on access to data generated at the Centre, and to promote scientific productivity from such data in a timely manner. The guidelines provide graduated access to APHRC data. Datasets are made available in widely acceptable and easily convertible formats (e.g. Stata, SPSS) to all partners, collaborators and post-graduate students (for their theses-related work) as soon as the analytical data sets are available.
