ABOUT Florence Sipalla

Florence Sipalla is a seasoned science communication specialist with over a decade of experience. At the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC), Florence is a communication manager, leading the Synergy Unit that handles communications efforts across research units. She has also worked at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) and African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD).

Florence has exceptional skills in writing, editing and content generation. She has experience and expertise linking research evidence to the public through media engagement. Over the years, this has resulted in extensive media coverage through published stories on both new and traditional media channels and field visits by journalists.

As an experienced communications consultant, she has provided writing, editing and rapporteur services. Florence worked with the Training Centre in Communication (TCC), where she conducted training sessions for scientists on how to communicate with non-scientific audiences which include the media, policy makers and the public.

Florence holds a postgraduate degree in African Literature from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Language and Literary studies from Moi University, Eldoret, Kenya.
