ABOUT Caroline Nyambura Thiongo

Caroline is a Research Officer with the Education and Youth Empowerment unit where she supports the Urban education project. She assists with the coordination of activities being implemented by the Urban Education Groups in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania and supports the teams in identifying their training needs as well as organizing for various capacity building ventures for improved learning outcomes across the three East African countries.

Caroline works with the project team to plan for policy engagement and communication sessions with policy stakeholders in the three countries with an aim of achieving equitable and inclusive education for the children living in urban poor settlements through supportive policies.

She graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies (Community Development) from Kenyatta University and is currently pursuing Masters of Science (Environmental Health) at the same University. She previously worked as an Implementation Curriculum coordinator at the Supply Education Group in Kenya where she contributed to increasing students’ awareness of civic rights and responsibilities in the informal settlements of Nairobi.

Caroline is driven by the need to understand the inter-linkages between education and health of marginalized school going children. She is a member of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) network.
