Damazo T. Kadengye

Head of Data, Science and Evaluation
Damazo T. Kadengye received a Bachelor of Statistics from Makerere University, Kampala, a Master of Biostatistics from Hasselt University and a doctorate from the University of Leuven in Belgium. Presently, he is the head of the Data, Measurement, and Evaluation Unit, as well as a research scientist, responsible for overseeing the design of scientific studies, providing data, measurement and statistical analytical advice to researchers at the Center. He leads a number of research projects focusing on data and measurement. Damazo has served as an associate research scientist at APHRC; as a senior lecturer of biostatistics and epidemiology at Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Uganda; as a lecturer of statistical methods at Makerere University, Uganda; and as an epidemiologist with U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Uganda. He has led several funded research projects and published in the areas of HIV/AIDS, women’s health, child healthcare, adolescent health, and educational sciences.
Damazo has an interest in implementation research and impact evaluation. His interests in statistical methods include discrete data analysis, generalized linear mixed models, missing data methods and multilevel modeling. He has experience in the use of STATA, SAS, R, SPSS, Epi-Info and Epi-Data software. Damazo was a 2017 Impact Evaluation Fellow of the East Africa Social Science Translation (EASST) Collaborative based at the Center of Effective Global Action (CEGA), University of California, Berkeley.
