APHRC conducts policy-relevant research on population, health, education, urbanization and related development issues in sub-Saharan Africa. APHRC seeks to recruit a Program Coordinator to work in its Research Capacity Strengthening Division to support the management and coordination of the Training Program. This is an opportunity to join an existing team dedicated to conducting research-related short course training focusing on postgraduates and early-career researchers. Major Responsibilities: Support the curriculum development process for select courses (i.e. lead the planning, content and method development, testing, implementation, and course evaluation); Support the recruitment of facilitators and/or participants, instrument development, data collection, data analysis, and report preparation; Support facilitation of sessions during short course training (i.e. serve as lead trainer in at least one training area e.g. Grants Proposal Writing, Impact Evaluation, Implementation Research, Mixed Methods Research, Systematic Review & Meta-Analysis, Scientific Writing, or others); Conduct formative assessment (e.g. training needs assessment prior to training to identify skills and knowledge gaps to be addressed) and summative assessment (e.g. end of training/follow up evaluation survey to assess effectiveness and impact of the training on participants and/or institutions); Communicate with APHRC unit heads to identify the center’s training needs and map out development plans; Manage the curriculum database and training records and maintain/update in-house training materials and equipment; Contribute to program sustainability by supporting training-related proposal development; Contribute to scientific writing based on data collected routinely as part of training M&E; Lead in policy engagement and dissemination of best practices to appropriate audiences; and Support marketing of APHRC short course offerings to potential individuals and institutions. Qualifications and Experience: The ideal candidate will have up to 2 (two) years’ relevant post-doctoral experience facilitating research methodology workshops and possess strong analytical skills (quantitative or qualitative): PhD in Education or Public Health (preferably with emphasis in curriculum & instruction) or related field. Experience and strong interest in research capacity strengthening and instructional design. Demonstrated prior experience in training curriculum development and implementation (e.g., experience in facilitating short course training to graduate students, or other practicing researchers). Hands-on experience coordinating different short course training workshops. Experience with various training methods (including virtual, in-person training, and blended offering) and up-to-date with new training methods and techniques. Strong writing skills and good record of publications (at least 3 lead author publications in peer-reviewed journals and over 5 conference presentations in defined area of interest). Computer literacy in Microsoft packages (e.g. MS Word, MS PowerPoint, & MS Excel). Strong quantitative skills (managing, analyzing & interpreting data), with extensive familiarity with quantitative statistical packages (e.g. Stata, SAS, or SPSS). Desirable: Expertise in mixed methods research approaches. Experience with e-learning platforms. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and ability to work in a culturally diverse team.
