The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is a premier research-to-policy institution, generating evidence, strengthening research and related capacity in the African research and development ecosystem, and engaging policy to inform action on health and development. The Center is Africa-based and African-led, with its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, and a West Africa Regional Office (WARO), in Dakar, Senegal. APHRC seeks to drive change by developing strong African research leadership and promoting evidence informed decision-making (EIDM) across sub-Saharan Africa.

APHRC is seeking to fill the position of Finance Accountant for its regional office based in Dakar, Senegal.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage filing/archiving of all administrative documents and files
  • Provide administrative support to the finance department, including filing, data entry, and correspondence.
  • Assist on budgeting and preparing donor financial reports
  • Ensure completeness of supporting documentations for payment.
  • Make sure all asset a tagged and labelled for inventory.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
  • Ensure all financial transactions are properly documented and entered into the accounting system.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and reports.
  • Process invoices, receipts, payments, and other financial transactions.
  • Ensure timely payment of vendor invoices and staff reimbursements.
  • Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding payments.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and information.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, donor requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Support the implementation of audit recommendations.
  • Maintain financial records and archives in an organized and secure manner.
  • Contribute to draft the budgets, Projects reports and reports required by regulatory authorities.

Qualifications, skills and experience:

  • At least BA degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field
  • At least 1-3 years of relevant work experience in finance or accounting roles. Experience in an international or non-profit organization can be particularly valuable
  • Strong understanding of financial principles, practices, and regulations in Senegal
  • Proficiency in using accounting software and financial management systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics, or other ERP systems).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel for financial analysis and reporting.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in financial record-keeping and reporting.
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English and French
  • Good interpersonal skills (tact, diplomacy, discretion and impartiality)
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment will be an added advantage
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and adapt to changing priorities.
