By Lauren Gelfand, Director of Policy Engagement and Communications, APHRC In late August, APHRC had the privilege of participating in a two-day symposium bringing together some of the audacious, inspiring and...
Lauren is leading a dynamic team of policy and communications professionals to broaden the visibility of APHRC while also expanding the Center’s ability as an organization to influence policy both at the country level and the global policy agenda in health, education, urbanization and aging.
Lauren has lived and worked in Africa for 10 of the last 13 years, first as a journalist and then as a communications and program development specialist with an emphasis on public health. She has a Master’s degree in Journalism and a second Master’s in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Her last job was as the Editor in Chief of Aidspan: the independent watchdog of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and malaria.
She firmly believes that African institutions are going to be the drivers of the solutions to the continent’s challenges. APHRC has a global reputation and should take its rightful place in the global pantheon of institutions that are developing the evidence base needed to turn research into action.
