Ramatou Ouedraogo

Post-doctoral research scientist

Ramatou  works under the Population Dynamics and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (PDRH) unit on two projects : Quality  post-abortion care services in Burkina Faso, Kenya and Nigeria, and the In Their Hands Evaluation Project in Kenya. She holds a PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Bordeaux (France), and a Master Degree in Sociology from the University of Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso).

Before joining APHRC, she served as a post-doctoral fellow at the Fondation Maison Sciences de l’Homme (FMSH) and as a Project coordinator at the Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale (INSERM) both in Paris (France).

Ramatou is driven by the conviction that offering better living conditions to African people can’t be reached without research. Her research interests include sexual and reproductive health issues (abortion, prostitution, family planning, infertility, infanticide), infectious diseases (HIV, Ebola), health systems, young people dynamics and transition to adulthood, gender and inter-generational relationships.

She got fellowship from the Department of Cooperation and Cultural Action of French Embassy for her master study, and from the University of Oslo for her PhD study. Ramatou is member of the Association for the Anthropology of Social Change and Development (APAD).
