Peter Otieno

Research Officer

Peter Otieno is a Research Officer in the Health and Systems for Health unit. His research focuses on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) epidemiology and health system strengthening through the development of evidence-based decision models for prevention, treatment, and control of NCDs.

Peter holds a Masters degree in Public Health Epidemiology & Disease Control from Moi University and a Master of Science in Gerontology from the University of Southampton (United Kingdom). He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Population Health Science (First Class Honours) from Kenyatta University (2014 ). Prior to joining APHRC, he had worked with the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) as a research officer on NCDs and Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) research projects.  Peter received Commonwealth Scholarship for his Masters (2015) at the University of Southampton Center for Research on Ageing (CRA) and Center for Population Change. Peter is the Co-founder of Population Health Society of Kenya.

He believes that “Advancing justice in health by reducing health disparities is the “acid test” of the value of epidemiology and population health science to health.” He is driven by the desire to conduct substantive researches that address critical health issues and deliver evidence-based solutions to improve lives around the world.
