Associate Research Scientist

Joyce currently works on the STEP UP (Strengthening Evidence for the Programming on Unintended Pregnancy) project under the Population Dynamics and Reproductive Health research program. The project aims to generate a coherent body of robust scientific evidence to address reproductive and maternal health, through reducing unmet need for family planning (FP) and improving access to safe abortion (SA) services.

She holds a PhD in Sociology (specializations in Demography/Social Change and International Development) from Utah State University, USA, a Master’s degree in Public Affairs/Applied Sociology from New Mexico Highlands University, USA and a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Anthropology from the University of Buea, Cameroon.

Joyce joined APHRC in January 2012 and her research interests include gender, reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, adolescents, marriage, socioeconomic determinants of health, and African development. She is driven by the potential impact of her research. Joyce is a member of various professional associations such as the Population Association of America, Pacific Sociological Association, Union for African Population Studies and Western Social Science Association.
