Catherine Asego

Project Coordinator

Catherine has over seven years of professional work experience in project management, communications, and policy engagement. She is the project coordinator for the Regional Education Learning Initiative (RELI) under the Education and Youth Empowerment (EYE) unit. RELI seeks to enhance collaboration and learning between over 50 partner organizations from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo working to address challenges facing the education sector in the region.

Catherine convenes RELI members through various networking platforms, facilitates learning together with the Monitoring and Evaluation mentors, and supports the organizations to achieve RELI’s vision of generating knowledge and evidence to influence policies and lead to transformation for improved education outcomes across East Africa and the DRC. She has established Urban Education Working Groups in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania for the promotion of quality education and work with policymakers to ensure Improved education for the urban poor in East Africa.

She has a Master of Arts Degree in Project Planning and Management from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Communication from Daystar University.

Catherine previously worked as the Campaigns Officer at Elimu Yetu Coalition, a coalition of 140 organizations where she established County Education Networks (CENs) in Kenya to monitor devolved education service. She served as a member of the Technical Working Group which reviewed the progress made in Universal basic Education under the Education for All (EFA) goals in Kenya and trained the FAWE Regional and National chapters from 18 countries on Education Sector Planning to enhance their capacities to effectively engage in the design and implementation of the Education Sector Plans. She was also a member of the UNESCO learning cities drafting committee in Cork, Ireland (2017)

Catherine is driven by the passion and desire to help improve lives especially of the most vulnerable children living in abject poverty through ensuring access to quality education. 

She is a 2015 Mandela Washington Fellow under the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) program, an initiative of the former US President Barack Obama to invest in the next generation of African leaders. She was part of the select fellows chosen to facilitate a crisis simulation session during the presidential summit in Washington DC. She was also feted by Daystar University for the International Recognition award as alumni going places.
