Postdoctoral Research Scientist

Agnes’ work at APHRC has two foci.  First, within the aging and development program, management of a project that seeks to understand realities of, and policy needs on long term care for older persons in sub-Saharan Africa.  Second, support to a cross-program initiative on child and youth rights, which aims to promote the use of research evidence by organizations engaged in advancing the rights of children and youth in Africa, as enshrined in the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the child, and the African Youth Charter.

Agnes holds a PhD in health policy and systems Research from Karolinska Institutet Sweden, a Msc Public health with specialization in epidemiology from Umeå University Sweden and a MBchB from Makerere University Uganda.  Before joining APHRC, Agnes worked as a Research officer for the Malaria Consortium’s inSCALE project, which evaluated the impact of different motivation approaches on community health workers’ performance and retention in an integrated community case management program. Prior to this, she served as Medical officer at the Infectious Diseases Institute Kampala Uganda as part of a team that spearheaded the introduction of sexual reproductive health services for people living with HIV/AIDS and youth friendly services for Young people living with HIV/AIDS.

Agnes’ research interests are motivated by social justice and the  need for equitable health policies and systems.
