Elizabeth Melanie (Elize) Webb is a lecturer in Epidemiology at the School of Health Systems and Public Health, University of Pretoria, South Africa. She was born in Paarl in the Western Cape, but completed her school and university studies in Pretoria. She worked for more than ten years for the National Department of Health, first in the Epidemiology directorate and then as the data manager for the Expanded Programme on Immunization. This led to her Masters studies in Polio Eradication. She then joined the University of Pretoria as an academic staff member and became interested in chronic diseases, with a special interest in diabetes research. Her current research interest lies in health systems research, with a focus on diabetes care at primary level. Her PhD research focuses on complications screening at primary health care level in South Africa.
