Edward Nicol is attached to the Burden of Disease Research Unit of the South African Medical Research Council, South Africa and is currently working towards a PhD in Community Health at Stellenbosch University, South Africa. His PhD study focuses on strengthening the health information systems that support maternal and child health HIV programs.
His career has spanned around studies in maternal and child health, focusing on monitoring and evaluation of HIV/AIDS program performance, especially around improving data quality. Nicol has presented his works at several academic conferences and has contributed to several peer-reviewed publications. His future goal among others is to seek to identify the information challenges and steps to improve the current status of the South African routine health information systems in terms of data quality, accuracy and information use.
