Ministerial Conference on Global Open Data for Agriculture and Nutrition and 4th AGRITEC Africa Exhibition
Location: Kenyatta International Convention Centre Nairobi, Kenya
Date: 14/06/2017 - 15/06/2017
Kenya will host a ministerial conference for Agriculture Ministers on Global Open Data for Agriculture and Nutrition GODAN, titled: “Catalyzing Agricultural Transformation for inclusive Growth”. The theme of the conference is: “Harnessing the Demographic Dividend through Investment in Technology, Food and Nutrition Data.”
Dr. Catherine Kyobutungi is a panelist on June 15 from 2:00pm to 3:30pm during a session on Mobilizing Stakeholders to Improve the State of Nutrition Data in the Global South.
For countries to achieve SDG 1,2,3 and 10 they need to have access to good data on how their populations are faring in regard to poverty, health and hunger. But sub-national data in many countries in the global south may not be available to ensure the right interventions are being implemented in the right parts of the country at the right time. This could undermine efforts to reduce inequalities within countries and hamper efforts to move the needle on the targets related to these goals.
This session shall discuss the state of nutrition data in particular, such as stunting in children under five, which supports efforts to achieve targets set at the World Health Assembly, the 2030 Agenda and regional development frameworks such as Africa’s Agenda 2063.
